SCOPE OF WORK: In January of 2016, PCG began construction of a two-level parking garage at the W. G. (Bill) Hefner VAMC in Salisbury, NC. The project was phased in order to accommodate the roadways surrounding the medical center and the job site, which remained operational during construction. Demolition of an existing parking lot and road in front of the medical center was required in the first phase. Once traffic-flow was in order, construction of the site utilities and foundation was completed. Then, the precast concrete was placed.
The site of the new precast concrete garage is circumscribed, and was logistically challenging for the PCG Team. Tight coordination of materials ordering and delivery was necessary, and construction equipment had to be strategically moved around the site. Also, soil investigation revealed the requirement of 438 auger-cast pilings, drilled as deep as 65 feet in some locations of the site. The completed parking structure includes HVAC, plumbing, landscaping, and also stair towers and elevators.
